Cayman Islands: 2018 Inter-Secondary Track & Field Meet
“It brings me joy to have secondary students across our Islands engaged in healthy and friendly competition. It will be great for the athletes to also have the support of their peers as they represent their respective schools. Sports are a great unifier and I am certain it will be an opportunity to showcase the talent of Cayman’s youth,” Hon. Juliana O’Connor-Connolly, Minister for Education, Youth, and Sports.
Since it is a secondary school event and a regular school day for primary schools, no primary school children will be allowed to attend the event. However, parents and guardians are welcome and highly encouraged to attend this exciting event which will run from *:30am on Thursday and 9am on Friday. In order to obtain entry into TBSC, adults must obtain a pass from their student’s school.
Having the subject areas of Education, Youth, and Sports under the same Ministry has made it easier for greater collaboration, and the event will be a highlight for the school year.
The athletes will be divided into 5 age groups (12 & under, 14 & under, 16 & under, 18 & under, and 18+). The events for the meet will include: 100-3000m Races, Hurdles, Relays, Shot, Discus, Javelin, High Jump and Long Jump.
The Government and private schools participating will be Cayman Islands Further Education Centre, Clifton Hunter High School, John Gray High School, Layman E. Scott High School, UCCI Dual-Enrollment, Cayman International School, Cayman Academy, Cayman Prep and High School, Grace Christian Academy, St. Ignatius Catholic School, Triple C School, and Wesleyan Academy.
Every event will have a male and female winner. Cayman Islands Government dignitaries will be presenting the champions with their awards on the 2 March 2018.
These events will be an opportunity for each school to express their school spirit and pride, as well as highlight their talented athletes.
