Cayman Islands: 29-year-old-man of West Bay found unresponsive in the Boatswain Bay Area – FURTHER UPDATED

FURTHER UPDATE:


Following his arrest on the 25 December, a twenty-one-year-old-man of West Bay has been charged with the murder of twenty-nine-year-old year Darrington Ebanks also from West Bay.

This is in relation to a shooting incident that took place in the Boatswain Bay area of West Bay, on Tuesday 25 December.

The man is expected to be in court this morning 31st Dec 2018

21-Year-Old-Man of West Bay Arrested on Suspicion of Murder, 25 December

Just after 2PM yesterday, 25 December a 21-year-old-man of West Bay was arrested on suspicion of murder. This arrest is in relation to an incident that took place in the Boatswain Bay area in the early hours of the morning on the 25 December.  

The man is currently in police custody pending further investigations. You may view the previous press release below.

About 1:30AM on Tuesday, 25 December police and other emergency  services were dispatched by the 9-1-1 Communication Center to a report of shots fired in the vicinity of King Road and Florence Lane. 

EMS and police attended the location and attended to a man who was found unresponsive at the scene. He was transported to the hospital where he was later pronounced dead. 

The deceased has been identified as 29-year-old Darrington Ebanks of West Bay. The RCIPS would like to extend our condolences to Mr. Ebanks’ family and to all member of the public who were affected by this loss. 

The incident is under investigation and the RCIPS has closed off a portion of Boatswain Bay Road and Kings Road. All road users are being asked to avoid the King Road area and use an alternative routes if possible. The RCIPS apologizes for the inconveniences.

UPDATE:

The police have now released the crime scene in the Boatswain Bay area and the roadway is now open to motorists.
