Cayman Islands 5th least expensive Caribbean destination

PUNTA CANA, Dominican Republic–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Santo Domingo, the capital of the Dominican Republic, is the least expensive destination in the Caribbean. The latest survey from TravelMag.com has come to this determination after comparing the region’s most popular locales. The survey specifically examined 30 popular Caribbean destinations based on their cost of lodging. This upcoming February, the Caribbean’s high season, served as the timeframe focus. The cost for the cheapest available double room with a rating of at least 3 stars served as the basis of comparison. Averagely speaking, in Santo Domingo, one of the Caribbean’s oldest cities, travelers will have to spend just $43 for the least expensive room this February. Punta Cana, the other Dominican Republic destination considered by the survey, ranks 27th, or fourth least expensive, among all the locales considered. Its February overnight rate averages $87. On the other end of the spectrum, St. Barts, a French overseas collectivity, ranks as the priciest destination in the Caribbean. An average nightly price tag of $324 for its most affordable room, renders it the Caribbean’s most expensive locale. That figure represents in excess of 600% more than the same room in Santo Domingo. The following table shows the five most and five least expensive destinations in the Caribbean based on the average rate for their cheapest available double room (minimum: 3-star hotel) during the time period spanning February 1 through 29, 2016. Please note: Only hotels rated at least three stars and located close to the beach have been considered by the survey.
