The Auditor General, Mr Alastair Swarbrick, has written to Her Excellency the Governor to offer his resignation. The Governor has accepted this resignation.

Mr Swarbrick was appointed Auditor General in July 2010. He is leaving the Cayman Islands to take up a position as a Senior Policy Adviser at the Organisation of Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) based in Paris.

Her Excellency the Governor said:

“I have reluctantly accepted the resignation of the Auditor General. Alistair Swarbrick has served the Cayman Islands with professionalism and integrity since his appointment in 2010. During this period, the work of the Auditor General and his office has helped the civil service and other government entities to deliver major improvements in financial reporting. I would like to thank the Auditor for his significant contribution to our corporate governance and I wish him and his family well in Paris.”

Mr Swarbrick told the Governor that:

“I have had some great experiences as the Auditor General, and worked with some excellent and dedicated people across the public service. At times there have been challenges, and no doubt there will continue to be many more for my successor, but hopefully I leave behind an Office that is better placed to deal with them, which can support and encourage the public service to continuously improve.

I would like to thank all those across the public service and the Cayman Islands, who have helped to support my Office in the sometimes difficult work that it does.

I would like to wish the Cayman Islands and its people many years of prosperity and I look forward to returning with my family in future years. I will always be grateful for the opportunity I have had to serve.”

The Governor has started the process to recruit Mr Swarbrick’s successor, who will be selected from open competition.
