Cayman Islands Career Fair connects students with Internships
CIFEC Career Fair Connects Students with Internships
On the 21st September, the library of the Cayman Islands Further Education Centre (CIFEC) will be buzzing with excitement as Year 12 students make connections with employers offering internship opportunities for this school term.
“The internship experience is intended to prepare our young people for the world of work, where they can enhance their work ethic, improve their competencies and make an excellent contribution to their place of work,” said Hon. Juliana O’Connor-Connolly, Minister for Education, Youth, Sports, Agriculture, and Lands, continuing that “For many students, an internship is a stepping stone to additional opportunities within the same organization, including full-time employment.”
The purpose is for students to engage with employers and make a great impression, in order to be selected for an unpaid internship position running from October 2018 to mid-April 2019. Students are encouraged to attend with their resume, an excellent attitude, and willingness to impress a range of employers representing aviation, banking, law, hospitality, beauty therapy, construction, childcare, education, healthcare, media, the arts and Information Technology (IT).
Students hope to be shortlisted for an interview with their preferred employer. The internship would require the student to attend work two days a week, which includes mentoring, monitoring, and evaluation on a regular basis.
The Career Fair is a dynamic and informative event which showcases great private/public partnership at work. Employers are a tremendous asset to the programme and whilst not all who offer internship positions attend the annual event, most are there to connect and represent. They provide information and advice about their company and the internship opportunities currently available.
Participating in internships can be a great way to test drive careers, gain experience, and make life-long connections. The experience that students gain is invaluable and it helps to guide their future decision-making.
