Cayman Islands: Carey Olsen maintains its top tier position for corporate and funds
Offshore global law firm Carey Olsen has received further industry recognition for its work in corporate and investment funds in the IFLR1000 2016 rankings.
Carey Olsen, who recently announced the opening of its Singapore office, has retained its top tier positions across Guernsey and Jersey in the Financial and Corporate and Investment Funds categories. The firm’s growing Caribbean teams were also recognised for their expertise and rapid development as part of Carey Olsen’s global network.
Clients described the firm’s lawyers as “experts in their fields” that are “ready to provide specific advice, tailored to our needs”. Clients also praised the firm’s “practical, responsive, cost effective and highly professional” approach and its ability to provide support in connection with a range of investment funds, regulatory and financial services projects.
The International Financial Law Review 1000 (IFLR1000) rankings are a guide to the world’s leading financial law firms and based on extensive independent research, which includes interviews with the featured firms, both client and competitor feedback and market analysis from the past 12 months.
Highlighted deals demonstrated Carey Olsen’s ability to coordinate transactions across multiple jurisdictions. One notable example was the joint BVI and Jersey advice given to China-based Reignwood International (Group) Company Limited in relation to the £135 million acquisition of Wentworth Golf Club. BVI partner Clinton Hempel and Jersey partner Peter German advised.

• Advising Cyprotex plc on its listing of fixed rate redeemable and convertible loan notes on the Cayman Islands Stock Exchange (CSX), led by Cayman Islands partner Nick Bullmore.
A total of 11 lawyers were recognised as ‘Leading Lawyers’, a category that profiles individuals who have proven themselves to be among the best in their respective markets and who have a track record of innovative work.
These included partners Christopher Anderson, Andrew Boyce, Graham Hall and Ben Morgan in Guernsey, partner Clinton Hempel in the British Virgin Islands, Jersey partners Mike Jeffrey, Robert Milner, James Mulholland and Alex Ohlsson, Jersey consultant Nicholas Crocker and Jersey senior associate James Fox.

Carey Olsen chairman, John Kelleher, said: “These results reinforce our strong performance in corporate and investment funds where our international team continues to develop its practice.
“The opening of our Singapore office gives us further opportunity to build on this success.”
The results come after the firm maintained its tier one status across 15 practice areas in the Channel Islands in the prestigious Legal 500 rankings. Carey Olsen holds more tier one rankings than any other offshore law firm.
