Cayman Islands: Child seriously bitten by ferocious dog in Prospect
Child Seriously Bitten by Ferocious Dog in Prospect, 20 December
Just before 5PM yesterday, Wednesday, 20 December, police and emergency personnel were dispatched by the 9-1-1 Communication Centre to a report of a ferocious dog attack on a child at a residence on Birch Avenue in Prospect. A dog belonging to the residents had escaped its tether in the yard of the residence and chased two children who had been staying at the home. One of the children, an 8-year-old girl, was bitten several times by the dog, and sustained a very serious bite to her ear in particular. She was transported to the hospital by ambulance with serious but not life-threatening injuries.
The dog, which appeared to be a Pit Bull, was loose when officers arrived. Officers attempted to contain the animal, which charged at them. Armed officers drew their weapons but did not fire when the dog withdrew. An Animal Control officer arrived and gained control of the animal with assistance from police officers, and the dog was taken into the custody of the DoA.
The incident is currently under police investigation.
