Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands (1 February 2017) Two more young Caymanians have joined the ranks of air traffic controllers at the Charles Kirkconnell International Airport (CKIA) in Cayman Brac. Ms. Carley Lazzari and Mr. Eric Bodden successfully completed their on the job training and were validated as air traffic controllers effective December 2016.

Ms. Lazzari, who is currently the only female controller in Cayman Brac, has aspired to a career in air traffic control since she was a young girl and says she is grateful for the support from her parents and her mentor Mr. Clem Scott, in helping her to achieve this goal. “Every time I step into the air traffic control tower, I feel such a sense of pride and accomplishment and I look forward to a long and prosperous career with the Airports Authority,” said Ms. Lazzari.

Mr. Bodden has also had a life-long dream of working in the aviation industry and credits his faith in helping him to achieve his goal of becoming an air traffic controller. He says, “Always keep God close and put your mind and soul into working towards your dreams and they will eventually come true.”

Ms. Lazzari and Mr. Bodden completed several months of specialized training in Trinidad and Tobago in February 2016 before returning to Cayman Brac for on the job training with qualified air traffic controllers.

Commenting on the new additions to the team, CKIA’s Air Traffic Control Supervisor Mr. Joshua Burke said, “I am extremely proud of Carley and Eric’s accomplishments and welcome them to the ATC family here at CKIA. I know they will continue to excel and I look forward to helping them grow as air traffic controllers.”
