Cayman Islands college granted candidate for accreditation status
The International College of the Cayman Islands has been named a candidate for accreditation by the International Assembly for Collegiate Business Education (IACBE), a premier professional accrediting organization for business programs in colleges and universities throughout the world.
The IACBE Board of Commissioners approved ICCI’s candidacy at its meeting in Orlando, Florida on December 8-10, 2015. ICCI was notified last week. In September 2015, an IACBE official came to Cayman to review the college’s programs. Passing the candidacy visit was a required step to be moved to candidacy.
In granting candidacy status, the Board of Commissioners has determined that the International College of the Cayman Islands has developed an appropriate quality management system; has satisfied candidacy requirements relating to its business programs, resources, and operational processes; and is eligible to undergo an accreditation review.
“We are very honored and grateful to the IACBE Commissioners for this initial vote of confidence. Our goal now is to work to secure the IACBE accreditation and the stamp of excellence it will bring,” said Dr. David Marshall, ICCI President.
The IACBE is the leader in mission-driven and outcomes-based programmatic accreditation in business and management education. Founded in 1997, the IACBE is nationally recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (U.S.), and has accredited over 1,200 business and business-related programs in the United States, Europe, Asia, the Middle East, Central America and South America.
“This is a tribute to the quality of ICCI’s business programs and the hard work of ICCI faculty, staff and students,” said Marshall. We feel strongly that the college has a responsibility to maintain the highest standards in all of its academic programs in order to do our part to help build a well-qualified local workforce in Cayman; undergoing this rigorous process will help us maintain best practices in business education,” said Marshall.
The specific programs under consideration for accreditation are the:
Master of Business Administration
Master of Science in Management with a concentration in Human Resources
Bachelor of Business Administration with concentrations in: Accounting and Finance
Associate of Science in Business with concentrations in: Accounting, Banking, and Finance
During the next year, ICCI will prepare a self-study documenting it has implemented best international practices in business education. If the self-study is approved by the IACBE, ICCI will undergo another visit from the accrediting body before being considered for accreditation, likely in 2017.
Founded in 1970, the International College of the Cayman Islands the Birthplace of Tertiary Education in the Cayman Islands. The College is institutionally accredited by the U.S. based Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools to award associate, bachelor’s and master’s degrees.
