Cayman Islands Commish Baines to head corruption probe in BVI
A new lead investigator has been appointed to take charge of the corruption probe against multiple Royal Virgin Islands Police Force officers, according to Police Information Officer Diane Drayton.
David Baines, commissioner of the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service, was appointed to head the investigation on Feb. 11, Ms. Drayton.
Last August, four officers from the United Kingdom were selected to commence an independent inquiry into the allegations, which have yet to be publicly announced.
Those investigators began “Operation Lucan” on Nov. 10, reporting directly to VI Police Commissioner David Morris and Director of Public Prosecutions Wayne Rajbansie, Ms. Drayton said.
The information officer explained that Mr. Morris now has requested a change in leadership to ensure that the investigation is independent from any intradepartmental influence.
Mr. Baines will be working with Mr. Rajbansie, she said.
