Cayman Islands: CUC Track & Field Championships this weekend
The Cayman Island Athletic Association (CIAA) in partnership with Caribbean Utilities Company, Ltd. (CUC) present the 2016 CUC Youth & Junior CARIFTA Track & Field Championships on Friday, March 11th and Saturday, March 12th at the Truman Bodden Sports Complex. This year’s event commemorates CUC’s 30 years as a major sponsor of this exciting event.
During the Championships, spectators can expect to see great performances from our talented athletes as they compete for an opportunity to represent the Cayman Islands at the 2016 CARIFTA
Games to be held in Grenada later in March. CUC’s meet has traditionally been the final qualifier for athletes to make the CARIFTA team. The 2016 CARIFTA Games will, as always, be a very exciting event as 28 countries vie to bring home the gold and the Caribbean’s top athletics honours. CUC’s sponsorship of athletics began in 1979 when the Company sponsored the very first Cayman Islands team to particpate in the CARIFTA Games.
Since the inception of the Championships, several notable junior athletes have advanced and represented the Cayman Islands at various CARIFTA Games. CUC is honoured to be a part of this process which allows for increased exposure of our young athletes. Though the name of the event has changed over the years, commitment to supporting the CIAA is steadfast in hopes of further developing the Islands’ athletes and allowing them to flourish in the spotlight.
Events begin at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, March 11th and at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 12th. The Championships will showcase some of the Cayman Islands’ finest young superstars.
Sports fans are encouraged to come out and show their support for our young athletes.
