Cayman Islands Delegation Advocates for Collaboration and Knowledge Exchange at the 2024 CARIF Forum

September 27, 2024; Coconut Grove, Miami, USA – The Cayman Islands delegation recently concluded its participation in the 8th Caribbean Forum on Infrastructure held at the Ritz Carlton in Coconut Grove, Miami, USA, from September 24-25, 2024. Mr. Eric Bush, Chief Officer for the Ministry of Planning, Agriculture, Housing, Infrastructure, Transport, and Development, represented the Cayman Islands at this prestigious event, renowned for its commitment to advancing global infrastructure.

During the forum, Mr. Bush spoke on the importance of integrative infrastructure, focusing on the interconnections between planning, housing, infrastructure, food security, and transport in building a resilient Cayman Islands. His presentation underscored the critical role of collaboration and knowledge sharing in the development of sustainable infrastructure systems.

“We are at a pivotal juncture where the exchange of ideas and expertise can significantly accelerate our infrastructure goals in the Cayman Islands and across the Caribbean region,” stated Mr. Bush. “Key trends include the development of smart infrastructure through artificial intelligence, sustainable project prioritization, enhanced digital connectivity, and the importance of public-private partnerships in financing and managing infrastructure initiatives.”

The CARIF 2024 agenda included discussions, workshops, and networking sessions covering a wide spectrum of topics, including sustainable urban planning, smart transportation systems, food security, and climate-resilient construction.

Mr. Tristan Hydes, Deputy Chief Officer, also participated in a panel on food security, sharing insights on the Cayman Islands’ Food and Nutrition Security Policy and the role of infrastructure in supporting supply chains. “It was my pleasure to share our experiences on becoming a more food-secure nation. Thank you to the moderator, Miss Shana Lee from KPMG in the Bahamas, and fellow panelist Mr. Darwin Telemaque, Chairman, Port Manager, Port Management Association of the Caribbean, Antigua and Bermuda Port Authority for a meaningful exchange,” said Mr. Hydes.

Throughout the forum, Mr. Bush and Mr. Hydes engaged with ministers and industry leaders, reinforcing the Cayman Islands’ role as a key player in the region’s infrastructure landscape. These discussions laid the groundwork for potential strategic alliances and initiatives aimed at addressing common challenges and leveraging shared opportunities.

The Cayman Islands delegation showcased a range of initiatives that highlight the diverse capabilities of both public and private sectors in driving infrastructural innovation.
