Since the beginning of this year, 381 arrests have been made and over CI$152k has been collected in administrative fines.

Employment outside terms of a work permit and overstaying authorisation to remain on island are the two main categories where arrests have been made, with 112 and 108 arrests respectively.

Joint operations with the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service (RCIPS) and Department of Labour and Pensions (DLP) have also been conducted, yielding arrests for various offences.

Acting Chief Immigration Officer Bruce Smith said, “Joint operations allow us to strengthen strategic, coordinated, and collaborative partnerships in support of our law enforcement efforts.”

Last week three Deportation Orders were executed. The deportees, whom were all male, originated from the Dominican Republic, Jamaica and Bulgaria. All were being released from Her Majesty’s Prison Northward after serving custodial sentences for various offences, bringing the total number of deportations for the year thus far to 13.

In addition, three Cuban migrants were repatriated to Havana, Cuba, last Friday and escorted by immigration officers.

The total number of migrants repatriated to Cuba for 2017 now stands at 97.  Currently 44 Cuban migrants remain in Immigration custody.

“We applaud those employers and employees who comply with the Immigration Law, and we continue to encourage the public to always report breaches of the law, so we can immediately act on the provided information,” Acting Deputy Chief Officer Michael Ebanks explains.
