Cayman Islands did not host a major international swim meet

teamlogo_3132_1330380829967The Cayman Islands was supposed to have hosted a major international swim meet last month but was cancelled. Cayman was named host country in July and would have been the first time the Cayman Islands hosted a Union Americana de Natacion event.

The following is the UANA Press Releas:

WITH REGRETS: Cancellation of UANA Open Water Swimming Championships

From Union Americana de Natacion (UANA)

To: All UANA Federations

From: Dennis Ryther, Chair UANA Open Water Technical Committee

Re: 2014 UANA Pan American Open Water Championships

Date: September 18, 2014

The Open Water Swimming Championships originally scheduled for Grand Cayman in October has been canceled because of lack of participation from a sufficient number of UANA Federations. Over the past year we have proposed three different locations and three different dates for the UANA Open Water Championships.

When changes like this occur it creates a budget problem as well as the uncertainty if the event will ever happen. We wish to thank those federations who were ready to compete later this month. We apologize to all those who may have been inconvenienced by the cancellation of the event.

Those Federations still wishing to participate in a quality open water event should consider the Pirates Open Water swim to be held in Grand Cayman on November 8. Please contact Bailey Weathers from CIASA at: [email protected]

Our next opportunity for hosting a UANA Open Water Championship will be in 2016 or 2017. If your National Federation might be interested in a future UANA event, please contact me at: [email protected]

UANA is also asking your Federation to submit suggestions of the optimum dates for future UANA Open Water Championship events. You reply can be as general as listing a month or as specific as proposing a range of dates. Please solicit the opinion of your federation’s technical director and coaches and send your reply in the very near future.

I will be asking the same questions next week at the Pan American Olympic Festival and also at the 2015 Toronto Pan American Games. The information you share will enable the UANA Technical Open Water Swimming Committee to schedule and budget for future events that are convenient for a majority of Federations.

A special thanks is offered to our friends from Grand Cayman who were ready to host a world class event on beautiful Seven Mile Beach. We look forward to an invitation to return to Cayman in the very near future.

See you on beach again sometime again soon!
