Cayman Islands: Eleven DUIs in a Weekend of Thirty Arrests
From RCIPS April 3 2017 at: 2:02PM
This past weekend, 31 March through this morning, 3 April, officers made thirty arrests throughout the islands for various offences. Eleven of these were for driving under the influence, which is about twice as many in comparison with the weekends prior. Most of these DUIs were detected by officers on patrol, while two resulted during police responses to accidents.
“Initially it appears that this increase is more a result of more strategic road enforcement rather than a huge increase in drunk driving,” observed Sergeant Lenford Butler, “however, this was a lot of arrests for one weekend, and we want to remind the public of just how dangerous drunk driving is. A car can quickly become a lethal weapon with the addition of alcohol.”
