Cayman Islands Equestrian Federation Horrified
The CIEF, like the Fédération Equestre Internationale, takes the welfare of a horse as being paramount even before a rider. Animals are to receive water food and shade and to be in comfortable environment. These ponies were in their home, on private property, and someone entered the property and violently assaulted them. The current law in the Cayman Islands states that if you torture, infuriate or terrify an animal you commit the offence of cruelty and are liable upon conviction to a fine of four thousand dollars and to imprisonment for one year. In addition, a person who wilfully and unlawfully kills, maims or wounds any animal capable of being stolen commits an offence and is liable to imprisonment for five years. We do not think this prison term is sufficient for an odious crime like this.
With today’s social media, we believe that someone out there knows something about this heinous crime, and we request that you please share your knowledge with Crime Stoppers 800-8477 or to the George Town Police Station at 949-4222. .
