MAGNITUDE – 8.5
TIME – 10:00 (Local Time) 1500 UTC, MAR 17 2016
LOCATION – 20.2 DEGREES NORTH 71.7 DEGREES WEST
NORTHERN HISPANIOLA (DOMINICAN REPUBLIC REGION)
DEPTH – 12 MILES (20 KM)
An earthquake has occurred that may have generated a tsunami. Local Residents are asked to monitor Radio Cayman and other sources of up to date information for further details about this event.
– IT IS NOT KNOWN THAT A TSUNAMI WAS GENERATED. THIS
WATCH IS BASED ONLY ON EARTHQUAKE EVALUATION ONLY. BASED ON THE PRELIMINARY EARTHQUAKE PARAMETERS, WIDESPREAD HAZARDOUS TSUNAMI WAVES ARE POSSIBLE.
The next local update will be issued in 30 minutes or sooner if the situation warrants.

TSUNAMI EXERCISE
The Cayman Islands Government is presently engaging in a tsunami preparedness exercise.
A test message was transmitted to us at 10.40 a.m. that the Cayman Islands is under a tsunami warning. Impact time is 11.16 a.m. for Little Cayman and Cayman Brac and 11.32 a.m for Grand Cayman.
Wave height is expected to be 3 feet.
Residents should immediately head to higher ground and vessels should head offshore to deep water.
