Cayman Islands: Firearm arrest and RCIPS to provide mutual assistance

Firearm arrest
On Friday 5 June 2015 during a proactive investigation, RCIPS police officers recovered a hand gun and one live round of ammunition from an address in North Side. A 35 year old male has been arrested on firearm related offences and remains in custody.
On Sunday 7 June 2015, in a further unrelated proactive investigation, two males, age 35 years and 24 years were arrested on firearm related offences after a hand gun and 7 live rounds of ammunition were found at an address in Bodden Town. The accused men remain in custody at the George Town Police Station.
Mutual assistance
Four RCIPS officers will be travelling to the Turks and Caicos Islands to conduct an independent investigation into the fatal shooting of an armed robbery suspect on Saturday 6 June 2015 by a Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force (RTCIPF) officer. It is alleged that around 12:58am Saturday 6 June 2015, armed officers were responding to an armed robbery of a male, when the officers were confronted by the gunmen who pointed their guns at them. One suspect was shot and later pronounced dead at a Medical Centre, the second robbery suspect escaped.
Due to the seriousness of this incident, a request for an independent investigation was made by RTCIPF Commissioner, Mr. James Smith, to RCIPS Commissioner Mr. David Baines over the week end.
The RCIPS officers – 2 Sergeants and 2 Constables will be travelling to the Turks and Caicos Islands as early as Tuesday 9 June 2015.
