Cayman Islands Football: CIFA powerless in CPL transfer dispute
Acting Cayman Islands Football Association (CIFA) president Bruce Blake insists that there is little that can be done about the current transfer issues clubs on the island are facing.
Over the last few weeks, the management of a few teams, including Cayman Athletic SC, have voiced displeasure regarding how transfers are conducted in the Cayman Islands’ Premier League.
According to Cayman Athletic’s ’s Gillie Seymour, the teams are not following the rules, but Blake has insisted there is very little the CIFA can do with regard to amateur players.
“Our players are amateur players,” Blake told Cayman27.
“And I’ve also discussed this with FIFA legal again. With amateur players you can’t prevent a transfer because amateurs are supposed to be able to move from one club to the next.”
There is a restriction on how many incoming and outgoing transfers a club is permitted during a single window. There are, however, exceptions.
“But if a person wants to transfer and a club hasn’t transferred out three players then basically you have to allow it,” Blake said.
“But the reason why we meet with the clubs if there’s a dispute is because we don’t want anyone leaving with bad feelings or for there to be any animosity.”
