Nielsen holds nerve to win men’s table tennis final as Island Games conclude

Cayman Islands were the gold medallists in the men’s basketball having held their nerve to see off Saaremaa 75-63 at Tercentenary Hall.

Gibraltar sealed bronze with a 69-53 win over Guernsey.

Ivik Nielsen of Greenland claimed the table tennis men’s singles crown following a thrilling encounter on the final day of the Island Games in Gibraltar.

Nielsen triumphed 11-3, 10-12, 11-8, 11-3, 6-11, 14-12 in an epic clash with Guernsey’s Garry Dodd at St Joseph’s Middle School.

Bronze went to Isle of Wight’s George Downing and Jersey’s Jordan Wykes.

Marina Donner of Åland enjoyed a more comfortable passage to victory in the women’s final when she swept aside Greenland’s Karlinannguaq Lundblad 11-7, 11-2, 11-5, 11-5.

Isle of Man’s Katherine Vinas and Guernsey’s Dawn Morgan won bronze medals.
