Cayman Islands: HSM Head of Private Client & Trusts attends 2017 Trust Summits
HSM’s Head of Private Client & Trusts attorney, Mr. Robert Mack attended several conferences in May 2017. He attended the STEP Caribbean Conference in Grand Cayman on May 1-3, the Transcontinental Trusts International Forum 2017 in Bermuda on May 4-5 and finally the STEP Miami Summit, in Miami, Florida on May 19, 2017. Each of the conferences allowed Mr. Mack to connect with thought leaders and contacts around the world to stay abreast of the many issues and regulatory changes affecting the trust and private client world.
The STEP Caribbean conference was held at the Kimpton Seafire Resort in the Cayman Islands and focused on educating and connecting best practitioners in the field. The conference addressed a range of different issues affecting high net worth individuals and professional fiduciaries including the effect of the UK BREXIT, automatic exchange of tax information regimes (CRS and FATCA), human rights issues, and trustee best practice.
The Transcontinental Trusts International Forum 2017 held in Bermuda is considered a key event for trust and estate practitioners globally. It brought together over 250 attendees to discuss the latest issues and challenges affecting the trusts industry. The topics covered at this year’s conference included issues affecting Latin American clients, disclosure of trust information, asset protection, evolution of modern philanthropy, automatic exchange of tax information regimes, and private family offices.
The STEP Miami Summit reviewed the latest issues affecting US and Latin American clients and was presented by the many leading trust professionals. The summit covered a roundup of Latin American issues affecting high net worth families, the increasing influence of the OECD on global planning, U.S. tax reform under the Trump administration, and trust migration to the United States.
