Cayman Islands lionfish cull collects nearly 252 lbs of predators
60 cullers on 13 teams were in action over the weekend but the total catch was only half of last year’s cull that saw 1,300 of the spiny fish caught.
However, it could mean there are less lionfish around and the culling is making a difference.
The cull also raised funds to support a 6-year-old girl and her mother who are both victims of domestic abuse. Cayman’s ARK (Acts of Random Kindness) were behind the project.
Ambassador Divers won the competition with most lionfish caught – 130 of them, they also won the biggest lionfish caught 294mm and the heaviest – 32.2kg.
