Cayman Islands Lions Diabetes Fun Day for Children: A resounding success
Grand Cayman, December 20, 2015: Over 40 persons, including children, their parents and volunteers, turned out on Sunday 20th December for the Lions Club of Tropical Gardens (LCTG) Fun Day held at the Airport Park in George Town, which was specially designed as a treat for diabetic children across the Cayman Islands.
This project was the first of its kind, allowing children with diabetes to meet other children facing the same challenges in a relaxed environment. The children expressed joy at meeting others like them and recognizing that they are not alone. They were equally excited to have their faces painted and enjoyed the kid-friendly talk given by a certified dietitian on fun, healthy meals. There were games, healthy snacks, lots of giveaways and special gifts for all participating children
Committee Chairperson, Lion Jasmine Minott expressed pleasure at Fun Day’s impact indicating “it was a very good project which mixed education with fun; and we were very happy to see parents taking the time out of the Christmas rush to bring their children to this special tailor-made event.” Lion Jasmine also expressed her gratitude, on the Club’s behalf, to the following contributors/sponsors: Dr. Theodore Turnquest, DART, Professional Pharmacy, Cayman Water Authority, Fosters Food Fair, A1 Rental, Ritz-Carlton and Mr. Wilfred Chollette. Lions Club Present, Lion Clint Powery MJF, echoed Lion Jasmine’s sentiments and indicated that “Lions are committed to enabling the very young to the very old through projects which truly touch lives.”
