Cayman Islands Lions’ prostate and colon cancer event a big success

PACCE1The Lions Club of Grand Cayman is pleased to announce the success of PACCE (Prostate and Colon Cancer Event) 4th Annual Delano Hislop Memorial 3-Day Journey for Life Walk/Run.

The Lions Club of Grand Cayman annually hosts a robust campaign, PACCE, to educate the country on the effects and possible prevention of diseases that primarily affect men’s health, starting with prostate, colon and testicular cancers. The prevalence of the related issues, locally and regionally, have prompted the club to focus on creating an acute awareness among our male population and hopefully remove some of the dangerous myths that prevent many individuals from even getting checked in the first place. Since the first year of this programme, it has been noted that there is a significant increase in PSA (prostate-specific antigen) testing which is offered free of charge at PACCE awareness meetings and the Cayman Islands Cancer Society (CICS).

This year’s 3-Day Journey for Life Walk/Run took place on July 4-6, 2015, with the most participants to date. The total amount raised through this venture was approximately $40,000 KYD. The Lions Club of Grand Cayman distributed 50% of PACCE2the proceeds to the Cayman Islands Cancer Society (CISC), 25% of proceeds to Cayman HospiceCare, and the remainder of funds towards the Lions Club of Grand Cayman’s future awareness ventures. On July 27, 2015, the Cayman Islands Cancer Society was presented with a cheque of $20,000 and Cayman HospiceCare was presented with a cheque of $10,000.

The Lions Club of Grand Cayman believes that this is a successful venture and continues to bring more awareness of these diseases to the local community, including information regarding early detection and possible prevention. The club would like to thank the support of sponsors, participants and volunteers, as the event would not have been successful without them.
