Cayman Islands: Liquor Licence Holders Cannot Sell Alcohol During Elections
Liquor licence holders in the Cayman Islands are reminded that they cannot conduct liquor sales between 7am and 7pm on Wednesday, 24 May.
According to section 91 of the Election Law (2013), no intoxicating liquor shall be sold, offered for sale or given away at any premises situated in any electoral district in which an election is being held, at any time between the opening of the poll and one hour after the close of the poll.
‘Once licenced premises are able to reopen, they are to adhere to the usual closing hours and procedures set out on their liquor licences’, said Department of Commerce and Investment (DCI) Director Ryan Rajkumarsingh.
Business owners who contravene the law are liable, on summary conviction before a magistrate, to a fine of $500 or to imprisonment for six months.
Operating hours for licenced premises will return to normal on Thursday, 25 May.
