On Saturday, 30 January, the Cayman Islands Little League Association (CILLA), in partnership with the YMCA of the Cayman Islands launch its public fundraising campaign at the Field of Dreams. 

The project, referred to as “One Team One Dream”, is estimated to cost $2.1 million; $1.6 million has already been raised in donations. The renovation will include replacement turf for all four fields, additional enhancements to the fencing and lighting currently in place and building refurbishment. 

“We are very excited about this project, and what it will mean for the Cayman community. Updating our facility and installing new turf for the baseball and softball fields will provide a safe environment for the kids to develop skills, meet new friends and learn sportsmanship while playing the game,” said John Cridland, President of CILLA.

David Watler, Chairman of the YMCA, said he is thrilled with the progress of the project thus far. 

“This project will impact the 3000-plus people that use this facility every year. Little League provides so many benefits within our community well beyond the physical wellness. It brings our community together and involves all ages, nationalities and genders. It builds strong character skills such as teamwork, sportsmanship, and leadership. The Y is so pleased with our Little League partnership and this project will serve to strengthen our community and that partnership even more.”

CILLA has more than 400 players on its roster, ranging in age from 4 to 17-years old. Participation has remained free to the public for over 30 years, thanks to the Association’s community partners.
