Cayman Islands Male Voice Choir’s Christmas Concert
The Cayman Islands Male Voice Choir presented their Annual Christmas Concert at Elmslie Memorial Church last Sunday (3) to a large and appreciative audience.
In the first half various members of the choir gave solos or sang in small groups.
These included Colson Daniels, Rudy Myles, Wardley Connolly and even the conductor – Ernest Bodden. Other members who performed were McDorm Frederick on harmonica and, the usual treat from Kenneth Melville – his saw!
Guest performances were the North Side group New Direction and the young Aiden Connolly. I say ‘young’ but he is now much older from when I first watched him perform at a Male Voice choir concert when he was only 10. His voice has matured and got more powerful and sang “Mary Did You Know?” He was awarded with the biggest applause of the night.
Songs performed in the first part were “Good Christian Men Rejoice”, “We Are The Reason”, “Beautiful Star of Bethlehem”, “Let There Be Peace on Earth” and “Calvary Is The Reason Why”.
The second half was almost taken up by the choir singing the cantata “The Wonders of Christmas” with narration by Kenneth Melville.
Yes, we had to sing for our supper, too, on two numbers – “Angels We Have Heard On High” and “Joy To The World”.
The choir were accompanied by Antonio Sanchez on piano and Denver Bloomfield on organ. During the offering Sanchez switched to a keyboard and entertained us with some very intricate playing that almost got a standing ovation.
It was another fine performance that was broadcast live on Radio Cayman. If you weren’t at the concert in person nor heard it live on the wireless, Radio Cayman will be repeating it over the Christmas holiday. It’s even well worth a second listen.
Did I mention ‘sing for our supper’? Yes, there was a sumptuous supper prepared for us after the performance was over.
Thank you Male Voice Choir.
