Man Charged in Connection with HMP Incident on 6 May
A 27-year-old man of Bodden Town has been charged as follows in connection with the incident outside HMP Northward in which a firearm was recovered:
- Possession of unlicensed firearm (ammunition)
- Possession of an imitation firearm with intent to resist arrest.
The man will be in court Tue morning, 9 May.
The RCIPS would like to add that Prison officers at HMP Northward greatly assisted with this arrest and investigation.

At 3:39 PM on Saturday 6th May 2017 a report was received that a suspect pulled what appeared to be a gun on another man just outside of Northward Prison. The Police responded to the scene and arrived within minutes, whereupon the suspect abandoned his vehicle and fled on foot. The Police gave chase and arrested the suspect. The vehicle was also seized.
A subsequent search of the area was conducted in a joint operation involving the Prison, HM Customs and the Police, which resulted in the recovery of a handgun.
Det. Sgt. Mason of the CID is investigating the matter.
No shots were fired and no one was hurt in the incident.
This is the second firearm within a week that has been recovered. On Tuesday 2nd May 2017 a firearm and ammunition was recovered in a Police operation in South Sound. Two persons were arrested in that incident, one of whom was charged with two counts of Possession of Unlicensed Firearm.
