Cayman Islands Meals on Wheels ¢hange for Change Coin Drive
300+ Volunteers were mobilized across Grand Cayman for the Meals on Wheels annual ¢hange for Change Coin Drive which took place on 23 and 24 March 2018 in 26 high traffic shops, organizations and banks across Grand Cayman. The community came out in full force in support of the charity which raised funds to help feed the 223 seniors presently enrolled in the programme.
Meals on Wheels works hard to raise CI$20,000 each month in order to continue to operate. The organization relies on approximately 100 + volunteers weekly to deliver the meals during their lunch hour. The volunteers commit to one day per week every week and use their own vehicle and gas money to make the deliveries. Meals on Wheels prepares a nutritious hot meal and soup for the seniors Monday through Friday. None of this would be possible without a generous grant from the Cayman Islands Government and the gracious support of the community and Civil Servants from fundraisers such as this one.
Erin Bodden, Meals on Wheels General Manager said “I am overwhelmed truly by the wonderful support I saw this weekend from our community! Everyone from the Girls Brigade to corporations, small businesses, civil servants, churches and more. It is because of these volunteers and donations that Meals on Wheels continues to serve. Thank you so much for opening your heart and emptying your pockets for such a worthy cause.”
Long time volunteer and supporter Ms. Tara Bush said “Meals on Wheels is one of those charities I totally believe in supporting. It covers all the objects of my life purpose which is to bring peace to the world through nutrition. For nearly two years I have been supporting MOW as a volunteer and the satisfaction of delivering meals nutritious meals to our elderly citizens, plus talking to each of them fills me with immense gratitude. It is often the highlight of my week.”
There are some expenses to run the coin drive everything from the advertising, to volunteer t-shirts to the collection buckets and the lapel stickers handed out. This year Davenport Development Ltd., Radio Cayman, Cayman Compass and other media partners, helped Meals on Wheels cover those costs to ensure that every dollar raised goes straight to feeding Meals on Wheels seniors in need.
