Wednesday, 20 February the National Gallery was pleased to host a reception in the Upper Gallery in honour of four new works joining the National Collection.

The Ministry of Culture has supported the expansion of the National Art Collection at the National Gallery for a second year through the acquisition of four new artworks.

The four artworks selected for this donation are by preeminent Caymanian artists: Native Sons’s Chris Christian, Gordon Solomon and Al Ebanks, along with Shane “Dready” Aquart.

On Wednesday 20th Director Natalie Urquhart and the Minister of Culture Hon. Dwayne S. Seymour, MLA, JP, welcomed guests to the introduction and viewing of these new acquisitions.

On 1 March 2019, NGCI staff members Jessica Ebanks (Education Coordinator) and Lauren Anderton (Arts Administrator) had a great time at the John Gray High School Careers Fair.

They had over 100 students visit their table and leave behind their mark on their “What Do You Want To Be?” drawing table. 
Thank you to all the students who stopped by to chat with them about creative careers and to learn more about what goes on at the Gallery.

Cross Currents to open at the Little Cayman Museum

Cross Currents opened at the National Gallery of the Cayman Islands in Grand Cayman 9 February, 2019.

In launching this Biennial, the National Gallery seeks to encourage artists to challenge the boundaries of contemporary Caymanian art and and to critically engage with their surroundings.

In keeping with our mission to promote the appreciation and practice of visual arts in and of the Cayman Islands, the Cross Currents Biennial will be crossing the water to our sister islands. 

Over the coming days NGCI staff members Simon Tatum and William Helfrecht will be setting up a branching Cross Current exhibit at the Little Cayman Museum.Once open, viewing hours will be Monday to Friday from 11:00am – 3:00pm.

What’s On at the National Gallery

Educators are invited to a special evening featuring guided tours of NGCI’s exhibitions, hands-on art making, and networking. 
Educators will be given a teacher’s pack featuring information about local artists, art styles, and example NGCI tour options.
This free after-hours event is open to teachers from all subject and grade levels.
