Lost to Fire, Battle, or Pirates?

Beneath Cayman’s tranquil waters lies the Turtle Wreck—a 17th-century mystery waiting to be uncovered. Was this turtling ship destroyed by fire? A victim of a pirate raid? Or a casualty of the fierce battles that raged in the Caribbean? Clues from the seabed hint at a dramatic past—burned timbers, musket fragments, and the shadow of a notorious privateer. Could this wreck be linked to Manuel Ribeiro Pardal’s 1670 raid?

Dive into the mystery and uncover Cayman’s sunken past. Read more.

Celebrating the Launch of Our Audio Guide!

In February, we hosted a special VIP Reception for invited guests, board members, and museum members to experience our brand-new Audio Guide! National Museum Director, Dr. Poupeye, shared remarks, and Museum Board Chair, Susan Arch-Parsons, presented a Certificate of Appreciation to Paulette McField, the voice behind the Caymanian dialect audio guide. A heartfelt thank you to everyone who joined us for this milestone moment! Stay tuned for more updates as we continueto bring Cayman’s history to life.

Welcoming Megan Arch to the Museum Team!

We’re delighted to welcome Megan Arch as our new Collections Manager on a six-month contract! Having recently completed her master’s in Art Gallery and Museum Studies at the University of Manchester, Megan has returned home to Grand Cayman with a deep passion for preserving and promoting Caymanian material and visual culture. During her time with us, she looks forward to finding new ways to connect our collections with the community and contribute to the ongoing research and understanding of our rich heritage. We’re excited to have her on board and can’t wait to see all she accomplishes!

A special thank you to former Museum Director, Dr. Peggy Leshikar-Denton!

Grateful for the expertise and time of former Museum Director, Dr. Peggy Leshikar-Denton, who recently volunteered to walk our new Collections Manager, Megan Arch, through our archaeological collection. Megan will play a key role in ensuring that every artefact is accurately accessioned and catalogued in our Museum’s database. Exciting times ahead as we continue to preserve and share history!
