Cayman Islands Leader of the Opposition, McKeeva Bush, held a press conference last Tuesday (14) calling for a public inquiry behind his 2012 arrest and subsequent trial. He claims there was a conspiracy to remove him office and interference in the general election that he even questioned could have been illegal.
The Leader of the Opposition has filed a Private Members Motion entitled “UNCONSTITUTIONAL INTERFERENCE, CONSPIRACY TO TOPPLE AN ELECTED GOVERNMENT AND VIOLATION OF INDIGENOUS POPULATION’S RIGHTS UNDER UN CHARTER OF HUMAN RIGHTS AND EU CHARTER OF HUMAN RIGHTS”
Here follows the press statement from Hon. McKeeva Bush, Leader of the Opposition dated Monday 13th April 2015.
This motion is not being taken lightly; it is with the greatest of concern that I take this step. Being the longest elected member of the Legislative Assembly, the seriousness of the offences cannot be overlooked. Any good democrat and any person who values democracy or propriety in government, adding up to the utmost
good governance, will understand that the motion has to be brought, and has to be debated with urgency.
The best outcome for present and future generations of Caymanians and the people who do business in these Islands, and from outside this jurisdiction, must be the aim and objective of the legislature.
Democracy has been trampled on by the actions of those involved. Remedy must take place.

Bush at his Press Conference said there were “powers” that could have undermined the integrity of the democratic process in their efforts to ensure that not only he would lose the leadership contest would make sure he lost his hold in West Bay.
His Private Members Motion has been filed so he can reveal “irrefutable evidence” a democratically elected government of the people was brought down via the misuse of state powers, the judiciary and the law.
He has even named ********, in the conspiracy against him along with t********, and “other unnamed persons”.
He even claimed the election observers who came here for the fist time in 2013 had come to watch him!!
There had been a systematic attempt, he said, by the governor’s office and the UK authorities to remove him. It started with a smear campaign, then trumped-up charges in time for the election campaign.
Using as much theatrical colorations he is capable of he told his audience, “They were trying to make me out to be the worst person in this world. Too many things have gone on that are not right and I can’t just sit back and allow them to do this.”
Premier Alden McLaughlin is reported by CNS as saying:
“I believe the leader of the opposition has finally taken leave of his senses and he best be careful what he wishes for as he just might get it.”
