Cayman Islands ORIA Expansion Project Update

ORIA Phase 1Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands (24 June, 2015) Plans are underway for Phase 1 of the Owen Roberts International Airport’s (ORIA) Terminal Renovation and Expansion project. The Cayman Islands Airports Authority (CIAA) has issued an Invitation to Tender for the proposed work that will include construction of a steel framed 29,000 square feet structure to accommodate the new baggage make-up area, hold baggage screening room and mechanical room along with external paved areas.

Commenting on the project, CIAA CEO Albert Anderson said “This is a very exciting time for the Airports Authority. After Phase 1 commences on site we will put our Requests for Pre-qualification followed by an Invitation to Tender for construction on Phase 2, which will begin with the expansion of the existing departure lounge.”

Construction for Phase 1 of the project will not impact daily operations at ORIA since the work will take place on the west side of the building, separate from the main terminal. The overall project will expand the building in both directions. Interested contractors will need to submit their bids by noon on Friday, 24th July. Phase 1 construction is expected to start by the end of August.
