RCIPS and Crime Stoppers Appeal for Information to Assist 2010 Murder Inquiry

Today, Wednesday, 21 November, the RCIPS is informing the public that Detectives are again actively investigating the murder of Courtney Spence in George Town in January 2010, and are appealing to public for any information that can be of assistance to the investigation. Cayman Crime Stoppers is partnering with the RCIPS to make this appeal, and is offering up to $50K for information leading to the arrest, charge and conviction of the person(s) responsible for this violent firearm murder.

Mr. Spence, who was 32 years of age at the time, was fatally shot in the Progressive Distributors parking lot in Industrial Park around 11PM on Thursday, 28 January 2010. Mr. Spence was employed at Progressive Distributors, had just finished his shift, and was about to drive home when the shooting occurred. A security guard who heard the shots found his body shortly afterwards.

The investigation into Mr. Spence’s murder was reactivated recently given new developments in the case.

“We are optimistic about this case at this time, given certain developments,” said Kurt Walton, Deputy Commissioner of Police. “We know that there are people out there who know what happened and could have information that help us bring those responsible to justice, and we are asking those people to come forward now.

This was a violent and heinous crime, and whenever we as a community have a chance to bring to justice those that commit such acts, and closure to the families of victims, we must do so. If you have any information, please tell us directly or through Crime Stoppers.”
