West Bay Man Charged with Aggravated Burglary and Rape
The man, 22, from West Bay, who was arrested on 28 July on suspicion of an aggravated burglary and sexual assault that occurred on 23 July, has been charged today with Aggravated Burglary and Rape in connection with that incident. In addition, the man has been arrested on suspicion of a number of other crimes, including burglary, criminal trespass and thefts of a motor vehicle. The man is due to be in court later this morning.

Police have arrested a man, age 22, from West Bay, on suspicion of Aggravated Burglary, relating to the burglary and sexual attack that occurred last Thursday, 23 July, in West Bay. Police have been searching for the suspect intensively over the weekend and located him late this morning in the vicinity of Powell Smith Drive in West Bay. The suspect ran away when police approached and was apprehended around midday after a long foot pursuit through the coordinated efforts of West Bay uniformed patrol, the Operational Support Unit and the Air Support Unit.
“We know this case has concerned the community and we have devoted all of our energies to investigating it and making this arrest,” said Police Commissioner David Baines. “My thanks go out to the officers involved who have worked tirelessly on it since it was reported last Thursday night, as well as the members of the public who assisted us.”
The suspect is currently in custody in George Town.
