Police Officers Resuscitate North Side Man

At about 10AM on Monday, 24 August, Police Constables Zachary McLaughlin and Carlyle Nation responded to an emergency call for service to an address in North Side, where a 41-year-old man was curled unconscious in his bathroom. The man had collapsed several minutes earlier, and the elderly couple living with the man was unable to move him. When the officers arrived the man was unresponsive and not breathing. The officers began cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on the man at 10:05AM. Emergency Medical Services arrived at 10:26AM, and the man still had no pulse, but the officers continued CPR while EMS personnel administered epinephrine and put the man into an ambulance, at 10:44AM. At 10:50AM EMS personnel in the ambulance informed officers that the man’s pulse had returned and was strong. The man was taken to George Town Hospital where he was later reported to be in the ICU, but in stable condition.

PC McLaughlin and PC Nation have both received CPR training arranged and provided by the RCIPS in the recent past. PC McLaughlin and PC Nation have been with the RCIPS for four years and nineteen years, respectively. The RCIPS is proud of the skill and persistence they demonstrated on Monday to help save the life of this man, despite the fact that he was unresponsive for an extended period of time.
