Royal Cayman Islands Police Service (RCIPS) recruitment drive into last week

With the end of April fast approaching, prospective local applicants have only a short time left to apply for the post of Police Constable (Recruit).

All this month, the RCIPS has been seeking Caymanians and Permanent Residents with the right to work and between the ages of 18-40 years to take posts as constables with the service. Salary ranges from CI$31,272 to CI$42,096, with a 4% salary increase from 1 July 2015 to reflect the cost of living allowance.

“We are looking for motivated individuals passionate about keeping the Cayman Islands a safe place to work, live and visit; men and women who are proud to serve their communities and the country,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police Anthony Ennis.

In return, they have the opportunity to get sound training before getting on the job that includes 16 weeks of initial training during which they will be paid. Further, they will receive on-the-job training under the direction of a tutor Constable, he explained.

After completing a two year probationary period, the recruits will have opportunities to serve in different areas of policing in the Cayman Islands that includes neighbourhood policing, criminal investigation department (CID), financial crime and the joint marine unit, Chief Superintendent Kurt Walton elaborated.

“The criteria include being physically fit, computer literate and having a sound educational background,” Mr. Walton continued. “Most of all, we want persons who want to serve their communities and be respected in return. It is vital they have sound social awareness and should be interested in criminal law,” he added.

Last year’s recruit PC Gregory Banks Jr. urged eligible locals to grab the opportunity and apply. “This is a career which provides continuous job satisfaction because every day can bring a new and interesting challenge. It also gives us an excellent opportunity to serve our Islands,” he emphasises.

Adds PC Patricia Sevik, “As a woman police constable, I encourage other young women to avail this opportunity. There is nothing to stop you from showing your abilities and proving your capabilities. This is a job you can do well and be happy doing it.”
