Cayman Islands premier travels to London
GRAND CAYMAN, Cayman Islands – Premier Hon. Alden McLaughlin leaves Friday to travel to London for a week filled with meetings and appearances.
The impetus of the travel came via an invitation from the President of the Caribbean Council the Rt. Hon. Lord Foulkes of Comnock to Mr. McLaughlin asking him to deliver, as a guest, the keynote message at the Caribbean Council’s Annual Reception at the House of Lords in London.
The event, which is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, 24 March, 2015, typically has more than 300 people in attendance including many MPs and Peers, members of the diplomatic corps, a wide range of business leaders and senior officials from the UK Government. The Caribbean Council has held its annual reception for 12 years and has become a fixture in the Parliamentary calendar as well as a key event in the UK for companies and investors interested in the Caribbean.
“This gives us yet another opportunity to appear on the world stage to tell of the amazing opportunities available to those who would consider investing in the Cayman Islands,” Mr. McLaughlin said. “It also gives us a chance to highlight Cayman’s position as a major player in the world of international finance and the leading role we continue to play in support of the global agenda on fighting tax evasion and money laundering.”
The British Minister for Foreign Affairs relating to the Overseas Territories, Mr. James Duddridge will also be in attendance.
While in London next week Mr. McLaughlin will also meet with communication consultants to discuss ongoing efforts to merge Cayman’s Government Information Services, Radio Cayman and Government Television; meet with Friends of Cayman; meet with London business leaders and Lord Foulkes; and meet with Foreign and Commonwealth and Treasury officials concerning the concept of beneficial ownership.
Joining the Premier will be Minister for Financial Services, Commerce and Environment Hon. Wayne Panton; Chief Officer Dr. Dax Basdeo; Cabinet Office Policy Analyst Jason Webster; Senior Political Advisor to the Premier Roy Tatum; and Press Secretary to the Premier Tammie C. Chisholm.
