Cayman Islands Premier’s Tribute to Ms Nell
It is with much sadness that we mark the passing of Ms Nell Connor, affectionately known as the Queen of Breakers.
Ms Nell left this earthly realm on 25 April, just six months shy of her birthday. She was 96.
Throughout the years she was postmistress, a producer of Caymanian crafts and ensured that those around her were fed and given fellowship.
Her birthday party was an annual celebration in Breakers with family, friends, staff from the Lighthouse Restaurant and tourists.
She married Earley Vibert Connor on 4 April, 1946, and moved to Breakers from East End. While the couple never had any children, Ms Nell happily babysat for her friends and neighbours.
Ms Nell was an avid church goer and in 2014 received an award during Heroes Day celebrations for her contributions to the promotion and preservation of the Cayman Islands’ cultural heritage.
She is survived by her sisters Margaret and Eloise as well as brothers Joseph and Lebert and several family and friends.
We will certainly miss Ms Nell’s love of life and the sage wisdom and advice she imparted to all of those who came into contact with her.
Rest in peace, Ms Nell.
