Cayman Islands public water authority springs two leaks and shuts down
On Sunday, 24 May, 2015 at approximately 8:00am, staff from Water Authority – Cayman’s Operations – Water Supply Department responded to reports of a leak on North Sound Road.
While the Water Authority was in the process of repairing this leak, the pumping station at the Red Gate Road Water Works facility shut down as a safety precaution, as it is designed to do. This safety shutdown resulted in service outages and low water pressure to residents in the district of George Town. Once the leak was fixed, water service was subsequently restored to all affected customers.
Unfortunately, later in the day another leak was discovered in the vicinity of the previous leak, and water service to residents of George Town was again affected because of a safety shutdown at the Red Gate Water Works. Water service was subsequently restored to all affected customers shortly before 3:00pm.
The Authority is reviewing the situation internally.
The Authority regrets any inconvenience caused by these water service interruptions to its valuable customers and thanks them for their patience and understanding as its staff worked to repair the leaks and restore water service.
The public is reminded that alerts on outages are posted on the homepage of the Authority’s new website, as well as on its Twitter account. To report an emergency after-hours, please call 946-HELP (946-4357).
