Cayman Islands Purple Dragons seek World Karate Championships
Williams2 kick starts Purple Dragon’s World Karate Championships bid by sponsoring Fun Run
The Purple Dragon World Karate Championships are being held in Trinidad from July 17th-19th 2015. The Cayman Islands team has begun it’s intensive training schedule to ensure they’re ready to compete with the world’s best. The 30 plus strong local team, ranging from age 5 to over 50, will undertake a series of team training sessions and demos between now and June, whilst completing individual training plans to make sure they have the correct fitness levels and technical skills to compete on the world karate stage.
Getting the entire team to Trinidad is a hurdle and Williams2 have stepped up as the first significant sponsor, helping to generate funding that is critical to the teams’ fundraising commitments. Cathy Williams of Williams2 has long supported the Purple Dragon Cayman Islands Team, and sponsoring a new run called the Purple Dragon Road Warriors Fun Run will become an annual fundraising event for the team:
“Purple Dragon is very close to the Williams2 team’s heart and we are delighted to be establishing the Purple Dragon Road Warriors Fun Run, presented by Williams2, as an annual fundraiser for the team. This year the funds raised from the event will go towards supporting the Purple Dragon Team competing in the Karate World Championships in Trinidad. The dedication undertaken by the team in preparing for an event of this calibre is truly inspiring.”
Long regarded as a training system built upon respect, discipline, concentration and self-control, the Purple Dragon Martial Arts school programme is revered throughout the world. Locally, the Cayman Islands Dojos have adopted the International Purple Dragon ethos of mental, physical and spiritual growth as part of the Don-Jitsu Ryu System. This kind of positive fitness and discipline centred exercise system is a welcome and growing part of the Cayman Islands community.
Sensei Floyd, who heads up the Cayman Islands Dojo, is delighted that the team is receiving such fantastic support from Williams2:
“The Purple Dragon World Championships are every five years, so this is an incredibly important opportunity to exceed expectations as a team and to deliver the best we can individually. The Williams2 fun run sponsorship is our first fundraising success and we hope for an impressive turn-out on the 23rd May. Fundraising helps to ensures the entire team can attend the event, providing accessibility to those who do not have the means to attend otherwise.”
A series of showcases and fundraising events will be held over the forth coming months, hoping to engage the local community in supporting the Cayman Islands team when they travel to compete at this exciting and high profile event. The Purple Dragon Road Warriors Race will be taking place on the 23rd May 2015.
