Cayman Islands retires two Deputy Collectors of Customs

12088108The Collector of Customs, Mr. Charles Clifford, has confirmed that Deputy Collector of Customs Collie Powery and Deputy Collector of Customs Emalie Wilks will retire from the Customs Department on the 1st July 2016.

In confirming the retirements, Mr. Clifford said, “Both Mr. Powery and Ms. Wilks are long-term employees of the Customs Department with 37 and 36 years of service, respectively. On behalf of the Customs Department and their colleagues, I take this opportunity to sincerely thank them for their devoted service to the Customs Department, the Cayman Islands Civil Service and by extension the Cayman Islands community. We wish them well in their retirement from the Service.”

The Collector of Customs has also confirmed that these retirements will create a number of vacancies throughout the structure of the Customs Department and that Acting Appointments will be necessary while the positions are being advertised in accordance with the Public Service Management Law and Regulations in preparation for substantive appointments to fill these vacancies.

Mr. Clifford has therefore announced the following Acting Appointments which will take effect on the 1st July 2016:

Acting Deputy Collector of Customs Kevin Walton (Responsible for the Revenue Collections Portfolio); Acting Deputy Collector of Customs Jeff Jackson (Responsible for the Border Protection Portfolio);

Acting Assistant Collector of Customs Kerrylyn Ebanks (Responsible for the Collections Section);

Acting Assistant Collector of Customs Nickolas Rivers (Responsible for the Customs Narcotics Enforcement Team); and

Acting Assistant Collector of Customs Lisa Kelly (Responsible for Training and Professional Standards & Discipline).

In making these Acting Appointments, Mr. Clifford said: “I applaud these officers for agreeing to take-on additional responsibilities and for their dedication to the Customs Department. They will join me and Deputy Collector of Customs Marlon Bodden on our management team and I look forward to their support and contributions in the weeks and months ahead as we embrace the innovative change process and prepare for the future.”
