Cayman Islands riders prepare for junior show jumping competition

CEA JSJC 2015 Team and SponsorsTeam Cayman Preps For Caribbean Showcase

The Cayman Islands Equestrian Federation (“CIEF”) is preparing to host the second leg of the Caribbean Equestrian Association’s Junior Show Jumping Competition this Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th April from 8.30am – noon each day at the Equestrian Centre on the Linford Pierson By-Pass. Teams are flying in from Barbados, Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago to fight it out for the Cayman crown. Over the course of two days, each CEA team member will ride four horses over different courses which will test not only their riding skills but their memory, their courage and their mettle. The Cayman Team of Phoebe Serpell (16 and Under Rider) and Chloe Fowler (14 and Under Rider) have been putting the finishing touches to their jump training this week.

For Serpell, this is the second time she will represent Cayman in the 16 and under category, after a debut in Jamaica last year at this height. Although Serpell is no stranger to the CEA competition, having competed for Cayman in the 14 and under category several times before in Cayman and overseas.

Fowler will be representing Cayman for the third time, having competed for Cayman in Trinidad and Tobago and Jamaica last year.

“We are delighted this year to be hosting a 12 and under invitational alongside our CEA competition, with 10 extra riders competing from home and abroad,” said Pamela Fowler, Secretary-General of the CIEF. “This is a fun competition to give younger riders a taste of international competition. We could not do this without the ongoing support of our volunteers and our corporate sponsors. This year Butterfield Bank and Maples are our Gold Sponsors, with Cayman National Bank and Genesis Trust coming alongside as Silver Sponsors. We will be showcasing our island to our visitors while they are here and the children are really looking forward to hosting and getting to know the members of the overseas teams. It will be an action-packed weekend!”

The reserve team member for the CEA is Ashley van den Bol and the 12 and under riders from Cayman are Laney Bodden, Grace Bostock, Basil Humphries, Eva Muspratt, Meegan Slattery and Abbey Swartz.

Entry to the show jumping competition is free on both days. Support is welcomed and refreshments are available.
