Update: Correction to Location of Fatal Accident

The RCIPS would like to correct the initial release regarding this accident.  The location of the accident was on Bodden Town Road just before the junction with Frank Sound Road in Bodden Town.  It did not occur on North Side Road in North Side.

Around 8:45PM this evening, Thursday, 4 October, the 9-1-1 Communications Centre dispatched police, fire and emergency personnel to a report of a single vehicle accident on North Side Road near the intersection of Frank Sound Road in North Side.  A silver Mercedes Benz had run off the road and collided with a tree; the front section of the car was aflame.

Fire officers arrived and put out the car fire; the driver, a man, was removed from the vehicle and taken to the hospital by ambulance, where he was pronounced dead.  No one else was in the vehicle.

The easterly lane of North Side Road is currently blocked by police, and is expected to remain blocked throughout most of the night as a traffic investigation is conducted.
