There have been two incidents, a robbery and attempted robbery, in George Town yesterday and today, 9 March.

Today, 9 March, around 12:30PM, officers responded to a report of an armed robbery of a courier near BritCay on Eastern Avenue during which the courier had been held at gunpoint and his bag taken.  The courier had initially struggled with an armed man who had approached him and brandished a firearm, but ceased struggling when a second man approached. Both men were dressed in construction gear – wearing hard hats and reflective vests – and made off with the bag across Eastern Avenue and down Bodden Road.  No shots were fired and no one was injured.   Under $3000 was taken.

Yesterday, Thursday, 8 March, just before 6:30AM, the 9-1-1 Communications Centre dispatched officers to a report of an attempted robbery at Reflections Food 4 Less on MacLendon Drive in George Town. A masked man had entered the store, brandishing what appeared to be a firearm, and demanded cash from a cashier there. A struggle ensued, during which the cashier was able to grab the firearm from the suspect, at which point it became clear that the firearm was plastic. The suspect then fled the scene.

Officers conducted searches of the area but no one matching the description was located. The suspect is described as being about 5’5” and was wearing a navy blue hoodie and mask.

The RCIPS strongly advises members of the public to exercise extreme caution in situations like those described above and prioritize their personal safety. All possible steps should be taken to avoid confrontations with anyone who appears to be armed.
