(Tuesday, 12 January 2016) The Department of Tourism (DOT) is aware of the investigation into the assault on guests in the Cayman Islands. This unfortunate incident is contrary to the usual Caymankind experience of our valued guests as the Cayman Islands has a reputation for being a safe, family-friendly destination. The Department of Tourism takes the welfare of all those who live, work and vacation in the destination seriously. DOT will continue to work alongside the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service to ensure all visitors to the Cayman Islands have the best possible experience.
Robbery – Rum Point – North Side

On Monday, 11th January 2016 after 6:00 pm, 911 received a report of a robbery which occurred in Rum Point, North Side. A 77-year-old male who was accompanied by his 76-year-old wife and another female aged 61-years-old, all vacationers from Kentucky, U.S.A., were sitting in their back porch when a male approached them from the beach side who brandished a knife and demanded money. The suspect allegedly punched the 77-year old male in his face which caused injuries to one of his eyes. A substantial amount of CI and US cash, jewelry, one IPad, three cell phones, a wrist watch were stolen during the heist. The trio arrived on the island on 12th December 2015.
The suspect made his escape in the direction where he came from. He is described as about 6’ tall, well built and of dark complexion.
The victim was transported to the George Town Hospital by ambulance. The other two ladies were not physically injured.
