Cayman Islands Rotary Bed Race 2013 announced
The Bed Race Entry Form, Waivers of Liability and acknowledgment of Bed Race Rules and Regulations must be completed and returned to a Rotary contact by Saturday February 16, 2013. Entry deadline is February 1st, 2013.
Rules and event times are:
a. An entry fee of $200 (non-refundable) to Rotary Central is required for each team.
b. Race entry fee includes entry into the pre-race parade and races
c. Accepted forms of payment: CASH & CHEQUE
(If paying by cheque, please make all donations payable to Rotary Central)
1:00 p.m. Team Check in and inspection begins
All Race beds & teams will line up at Cassia Court for inspection.
2:00 p.m. Judging of Beds
3:00 p.m. Race Begins
Beds will race by heats and timed to qualify for final race. (Depending on number of entries)
Awards will also be given for “style.”
Immediately Following: After-Party and Awards Ceremony along Main Street
All net proceeds benefit Rotary International’s Polio Eradication programme “PolioPlus”
THE RULES:
1. Bed Design
· Beds should measure at least 3 feet wide by 6 feet long, but no more than 4 feet wide by 8 feet long, handles included.
· Beds must include a mattress.
· Beds should be designed with four functional wheels making contact with the road surface and be durable enough to go over speed bumps.
· All bed and team costs are borne by entrants.
· The bed construction must include a device for the rider to grip and hold for stabilizing purposes.
· No steering mechanisms are allowed. No sharp or dangerous objects may protrude from the bed. Any bed that collapses or loses a wheel, will be disqualified.
· All decoration and bedding must be in good taste.
· Beds must be human propelled and not motorized.
The race is run in heats. THERE IS A SEMI-FINAL AND FINAL RACE, SO POTENTIALLY YOUR BED COULD BE IN 3 RACES!
2. The Racing Teams
· Racing Teams shall consist of one rider, four runners/pushers and one alternate.
· All team members must be at least 18 years old.
· Team Captains must be at the assembly point at Cassia Court, Camana Bay by 1pm
· Team Captains will ensure beds in place by 1:00pm. Beds will be inspected to verify that the rules have been followed
· Judging for “best dressed” will take place at 2 pm.
· Rotary Club of Grand Cayman Central has the discretionary right to refuse to allow any team to participate who has failed to follow any of the rules, and (in the case of good taste) shall have sole and absolute discretion to determine if a team should not participate.
· A team disqualified for non-compliance and/or bad taste on the actual day will forfeit their entry fee.
· First heats of the race will begin at 3pm. Heats will be timed and have 2 teams running together.
3. Safety
· All Bed Racers MUST sign the Waiver of Liability and acknowledgement of the Bed Race Rules and regulations before participating in the race.
· Racers are responsible for their own insurance.
· All runners/pushers should wear athletic shoes suitable for street running.
· Bed riders must wear “pajamas”.
4. During the Race
· Bed riders must sit or lay flat on the bed.
· The rider must be clothed in “pajamas”.
· All runners/pushers must be in control of the bed until it comes to a complete stop.
· Teams should not interfere or impede the progress of an opposing team.
5. Awards
· Awards will be given to the teams with the fastest time (1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners)
· Additional awards will also be given for the following:
· Golden Spring Award-Best Dressed Bed Design
· Most Outrageous Bed
· Broken Spring Award
