World Mental Health Day is Oct 10 but Cayman Islands has events to Oct 16
This observance is designed to raise public awareness of the mental health challenges that clients/patients experience.
It promotes more open discussion of illnesses, and provides information on the prevention and treatment services that are available.
“Living with Schizophrenia”: is this year’s theme.
Following is a list of activities planned by the Psychiatric & Behavioural Health Services (PBHS) at the Cayman Islands Hospital.
October 10
- i) Panel discussion Radio Cayman –“Talk today- Sterling-Dwayne Ebanks”: 12:30pm-1:30pm

- ii) Movie Night ‘The Soloist’- Hibiscus Room- 5:00pm-7:30pm Followed by open discussion

October 13

Dinner and long service award ceremony for PBHS.

MRCU eradication schedule for October 9
The Mosquito Research and Control Unit (MRCU) has scheduled mosquito eradication exercises for today, Thursday October 9.
Aerial operations are to take place in West Bay, while Ground Operations are scheduled for Eastern Avenue, Smith Road, Prospect and North Sound Road.
The MRCU aims to suppress mosquito populations in order to minimise mosquito biting, especially in light of the rise of the Chikungunya virus.
Cayman Islands Post offices closure notice
Please note that ALL Post Offices on GRAND CAYMAN will be closed this Wednesday, 15 Oct. They will resume normal business hours the following day (Thursday).

Breast Cancer Awareness Meetings – all meetings start at 7:30pm
Monday, Oct 13 – North Side William Pouchie Memorial church hall – presentation Dr Steve Tomlinson.
Thursday, Oct 16 – Savannah United Church Hall – presentation by Dr Andrew Robinson.
Thursday Oct 23, Lions Community Centre, Crewe Road.
Walk/run
Oct 11th from Kaibo to LIME Exchange and back. Walk at 6am and run at 6:30am
Oct 12th from Holiday Inn Resort to Safehaven Rd and back to Holiday Inn. Walk at 6am and run at 6:30am. All runners for Oct 12th must be registered by Friday Oct 10th. Online registration is available at www.caymanactive.com and pre registration at the Elizabethan Square daily 10am to 5pm.
Entry fee is $25. the first 800 persons to register will receive an event t-shirt and gift bag. Funds raised from the events go towards mammogram screening and assisting those undergoing treatment.
