Cayman Islands Speaker represents Cayman branch in London
Speaker of the House, Dr. the Hon. McKeeva Bush is in London representing the Cayman Islands Branch of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association at the 150th international meeting of The Royal Commonwealth Society.
Cayman Branch Chairman, Dr. Lemuel Hurlston had nominated the Speaker to represent Cayman Islands at the three day meeting which began today (Monday, 15 October 2018) and is being held at South Africa House and Westminster on different days.
Delivering the keynote address at the opening ceremony, UK Envoy to the Commonwealth, Mr. Philip Parham outlined UK priorities as the Chair-in-Office of the Commonwealth.
Also addressing the delegates were The Royal Commonwealth Society Chair, Dr. Linda Yueh, and Chief Executive, Dr. Greg Mundo, while High Commissioner for South Africa,
During the first two days’ deliberations, the delegates will discuss better engagement of youth in Royal Commonwealth Society programmes, which focus strongly on young adults. Additionally, they will receive a presentation on “Localising the Sustainable Development Goals and the Role of Cities” and discuss environmental challenges the Commonwealth countries face.
The last day will highlight the Society’s engagement with Commonwealth citizens.
