Cayman Islands St James Point development picks up momentum
St James Point’s first phase of the $250m TEN Architectos project progresses in Bodden Town
With the recent announcement of the completion of phases one and two of a new road adjacent to the property, the entire project is picking up momentum.
When complete, the road will be a dual carriageway with median that will feature beautiful landscaping and provide a fitting arrival into this stunning development accessed from the end of the soon to be renamed St James Point road.
St James Point, a dynamic and exciting project, will enhance the district of Bodden Town and the Island as a whole, with the initial creation of a 200 room hotel, with 75 residential units managed by world renowned brands.
The road, funded by the developer and designed by the local engineering company, AMR Consulting Engineers, is being built by Bodden Town contractors Scott’s Equipment Ltd, KP’s Heavy Equipment Ltd and Unio
At completion, the road will be just over 2,700 feet in length and will eventually form part of a network of roads connecting with Bodden Town, a key component in the Government’s future roads system for the district of Bodden Town.
Premier Hon. Alden McLaughlin said “Once Government is in a position to complete the connector road from Manse Road through to Beach Bay, there should be several benefits including an additional roadway out of Bodden Town and unlocking values of property along the southern coast with the potential of further increasing development of the district,”
“In addition to creating jobs, the development of St. James Point enhances our tourism room stock and is another lure to bring tourists to our shores. Government will receive income for decades to come from hotel room tax, visitor spend, duty from the sale of condominiums and more. Equally important is the added economic benefit from the jobs that will be created directly and indirectly from this project.” he added.
Mr John David Layton, Principal and Managing Director of developer Beach Bay Land Limited, said he was delighted with this particularly vital progress of the project.
“Ensuring that residents and visitors to St James Point have proper and attractive access to this beautiful new resort is an essential element of its success, so we are excited to make this announcement today,” he said. “This exciting milestone in the project’s development could not have been made without the help of the Cayman Islands Government, who have assisted us with the planning process to facilitate building the road. We are pleased to be moving forward on the project and look forward to making further announcements soon,” he said.
A crucial element of the road construction has been the care by which the developers have taken in ensuring that rare trees and shrubs are flagged for relocation by transplant.
“As a group, we are extremely sensitive to Cayman’s natural environment and we will be doing our utmost to ensure important flora remains intact during the construction and development process,” Mr Layton said. Volunteers from local horticultural societies have been fundamental in helping to identify the species to be transplanted.
St James Point will be a focal point for residents and visitors to Grand Cayman because it possesses all the elements of a truly impressive resort location, with its spectacular beach, secluded location, superior infrastructure and natural beauty, coupled with first class development and construction offering top-of-the-range services. The local community will also benefit tremendously from its construction, as developers say St James Point will create over 1,000 jobs, including 750 during construction, supported by local suppliers and partners. The hotel is scheduled to open in late 2018.
